My Story

Hi!  I am Brandi OConnell, a Licensed Independent Social Worker - Clinical Practice and a laid-back, real world therapist who believes that therapy doesn't have to be stiff or intimidating. I use a client-centered approach where you get to drive the car while I am the GPS.  I will meet you where you are and go at your pace. I began my career over a decade ago and made it my mission to work in multiple settings and with multiple different populations.  I feel the more wide-ranging experience I gathered, the more effective I could be for my clients.

I enjoy incorporating humor into sessions, when appropriate.  Research has proven that laughter improves mood, increases resilience, and improves overall well-being.  When you come to session, I want you to feel that you can be yourself.  I don't pressure or judge.  My goal is to have honest conversations that will help you move forward.  My work is grounded in empathy, authenticity, and collaboration. I am humbled every day by human resilience.  My goal is for you to feel seen and heard.

Over my years in practice I have worked with individuals, couples, and families.  I have gained experience and knowledge by working in an inpatient mental health facility, working as a school-based therapist with elementary age children and families, provided therapy through a program for first responders, was based at a police department where I provided therapy for victims of crime, worked as a clinician responding to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis in the community, and most recently, worked to support federal government employees through life and occupational transitions. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and relationship issues.  I am EMDR trained, skilled and proficient in using CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), MI (Motivational Interviewing), Gottman Method for couples, and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques "tapping").

When I am not in therapy sessions, I spend a lot of time with my family and fur babies.  Sometimes, my fur babies will even make an appearance in session.  But, don't worry, they won't violate HIPAA.  I enjoy reading, binging Netflix, listening to live music/bands, organizing anything, and drinking coffee.  You will rarely see me without a cup of coffee in my hands.

Feel free to reach out and ask any questions.  I'd love to connect and see if we are a good fit!
